Also known as | Queen Charlotte-Fairweather Marine Geohazards
Purpose | Seismic and tsunamigenic hazard assessment along the Queen Charlotte-Fairweather Fault System in southeastern Alaska. This fault has generated more than 6 magnitude &+ earthquakes in the last 150 years. Very little modern marine geophysical data exist along its length.
Location | Southeastern Alaska
Summary | water column backkscatter submitted to FAD 3/10/2017 BATHYMETRY: Collected 4,178 linear km of Reson 7160 Multibeam data covering 4,621 square kms of the shelf/slope waters between Cross Sound in the north and Noyes Canyon to the south. Depth range between 110-2140 meters. MULTICHANNEL SEISMICS: Collected approximately XXXX kms of multichannel seismic profiles.
Info derived | Seafloor morphology, backscatter and substrate structural mapping of the Queen Charlotte-Fairweather Fault System for seismic hazard assessments.
Comments | Mob and Demob will be in Juneau aboard the R/V Medeia, a vessel owned and operated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Mob/demob will be for several days on either end of the actual cruise dates. TerraSond was contracted to lead mob/demob for multibeam sonar data acquisition. They will provide a Reson 7160 and all peripherals. USGS will provide high-res MCS sparker acquisition.

Multichannel sparker seismic-reflection data between Cross Sound and Dixon Entrance, offshore southeastern Alaska | 24channel | Multichannel sparker (MCS) seismic-reflection data were collected along the Queen Charlotte-Fairweather Fault between Cross Sound and Dixon Entrance, offshore southeastern Alaska from 2016-05-17 to 2016-06-12. Data were collected aboard the Alaska Department of Fish and Game R/V Medeia, and recorded using a 32 channel GeoEel digital streamer, an Applied Acoustics power supply, and a SIG SLP 790 Sparker Electrode. MCS profiles were collected coincident with multibeam data collected at higher survey speeds (5-6 knots), which reduced the MCS data quality. | Alicia F Balster-gee |
