Field Activity 2021-351-FA

Identifier 2021-351-FA
Purpose To determine sediment accumulation rates for potential restoration scenario
Location Deer Island, MS; launch from Gulf Islands National Seashore Park Boat Ramp or Simmons Bayou Boat Ramp if needed
Summary Collect 4-6 marsh push cores. RTK at each site. Collect single peat auger for depth to peat (discard in field).
Info derived Run samples for alpha spectroscopy for determination of lead-210.
Comments Cores will be handed off following collection, they will not arrive at SPCMSC for alpha spectroscopy until sediment is shipped from USACE following sediment analyses.
Projects
Platform
22-ft Twin Vee (R/V G. Hill)
This boat has a carrying capacity of up to 1500 pounds and up to 7 people and a shallow draft (9 inches empty). This boat's cat hull design results in a smoother ride in choppy water, at the expense of a slightly deeper draft. This boat is powered by two Yamaha 70hp motors.
Vehicles
Ford F-250 Stone Grey
