This field effort is a UAS emergency preparedness training trip to initiate new Woods Hole pilots to the methods of UAS data collection.
Equipment or personnel only. Data, if any, are managed under a different field activity.
Location
Geneseo NY
Summary
Sandy Brosnahan, Jin-Si Over, and Jennifer Cramer successfully completed the mission to Geneseo NY. Driving separately for COVID precautions, we convened in Geneseo, NY. On 2021-06-07 we flew the 3DR Solos with a Ricoh camera, micasense, and a FLIR successfully over the first field by the Salt Mine with a minor scare as a tractor came onto the field putting out manure and almost ran over an aeropoint. On 2021-06-08 we had morning fog at the second Alfred agricultural field station and did not fly until late morning. We deployed the same sensors and also the DJI Mavic Pro to obtain a view of the area. No obstructions to the job. All pilots had flight time, guidelines were followed, and no injuries or accidents occurred. Data was successfully captured and is being prepared to send to the OH, OK, IN Water Science Center.
Info derived
We will be collecting and processing aerial imagery, infrared, and thermal data to teach collection and processing methods to newly trained UAS pilots. The imagery will be provided to the Ohio, OK, Indiana water science office for publication.
Comments
Need to add information on FLIR that measures thermal data
These RGB 3-band images were collected of the field site with sufficient overlap to produce structure-from-motion photogrammetry products to create a digital elevation model
