Field Activity 2022-008-FA

Identifier 2022-008-FA
Alternate names CACO-02 2022
Purpose To characterize the beach and nearshore morphology and evaluate the USGS Total Water Level and Coastal Change Forecast. Use of CoastCam camera station to visualize and map the beach and nearshore region to determine the types of bar morphologies, their persistence and temporal variability, and the relationship of these changes to wave and water-level conditions. Meteorlogical measurements will be made at the CoastCam location to supplement data on nearshore circulation processes, especially during the summer-early fall deployments that overlap with the shark behavior research.
Location Marconi Beach, Cape Cod National Seashore, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States, Atlantic Ocean
Summary Meteorological measurements and CoastCam imagery were taken at Marconi Beach, MA during 2022. The cameras were visited for regular maintenance to clean the camera lenses and change batteries. Unfortunately, the camera system went down during the first week of October. We are working to purchase a replacement system. Some gaps occur in the meteorological measurements due to battery failure and the sensor freezing during cold weather.
Info derived Periodic trips to maintain and service CoastCam site and meteorological station at Marconi Beach on Cape Cod National Seashore as part of this ongoing project.
Comments These are recurring trips to maintain CoastCam CACO-02 and weather station at Marconi Beach as part of this project. This FA shall cover events and data collected in calendar year 2022. Entries for this field activity are based on entries from Field Activity 2021-019-FA.

2022-01-13 2022-01-13 1/13/2022 provides a short weather window to replace camera system batteries and conduct system checks at Marconi beach. Bo Bales, Alex Olson, and Erin Lyons will drive from MOF to conduct checks.
2022-01-26 2022-01-26 Jin-Si Over & Chris Sherwood conduct GPS survey met station at Marconi beach
2022-03-02 2022-03-02 Eric and Olivia went to Marconi to download met station data, replace met D-cell batteries, replace camera car battery, and clean camera lenses.
2022-04-29 2022-04-29 Eric and Olivia went to Marconi to install a bulkhead on the met station panel to convert it from D-cell batteries to a big battery. SD card was removed and data was downloaded.
2022-08-18 2022-08-18 Eric and Olivia changed out battery at met station and downloaded data.
2022-11-02 2022-11-02 Olivia and Bo visited met station, downloaded data, and replaced battery.
2023-05-04 2023-05-04 Eric Marsjanik went to the camera system at Marconi Beach to troubleshoot the camera. Camera is not uploading data. Camera voltage was 12.59VDC, solar panels intact and in good condition, inside the electronics box the computer was on and the modem was showing full cell signal. Suspect storage issues, will further troubleshoot on Friday 5-5
2023-05-05 2023-05-05 Eric Marsjanik went to the camera site at Marconi Beach to install an external hard drive and perform system checks.
