To collect benthic and mid-water column sediment plumes from a deep-sea nodule extraction test operation.
Location
Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone, North Pacific Ocean.
Summary
During this research cruise I collected water and particulate samples from mid-water column and benthic sediment plumes generated during a deep-sea nodule extraction pilot test operation. Samples were collected from GoFlo bottles mounted on a CTD, and Niskin bottles mounted on an ROV. Benthic and mid-water plume samples were collected during various stages of production and discharge. Particle samples and nodules were transported to USGS PCMSC for mineralogical identification, water samples were transported to collaborators at Texas A&M University.
Info derived
Mineral composition and metal concentration of particulates in benthic and mid-water column sediment plumes.
