The primary goal of this project is to develop a rigorous, systematic research project to address the physical impacts of CC and SLR to the varied geomorphic settings along Pacific and Arctic coasts. With this over-arching aim in mind, we have the following objectives:-Gain a better understanding of the contribution of different forcings to coastal flooding -Improve assessments of relative SLR rates for various geographic settings-Provided downscaled climate change projections, including winds, waves, set-up, and run-up-Improve understanding of extreme water levels, coastal flooding and inundation, and shoreline erosion in complex active margin, coral reef, and high-latitude settings-Develop tools to improve regional assessments of coastal vulnerability to SLR-Develop tools to predict long-term shoreline change under various SLR scenarios-Assess the contribution of sediment supply to the coastal response to SLR-Improve understanding of vulnerability / resilience of coastal aquifers to CC and SLR impacts-Utilize our Interdisciplinary expertise to link coastal SLR and CC impacts models to ecosystem-based, biologic, and socio-economic response models. |
