Purpose To characterize the beach and nearshore morphology and evaluate the USGS Total Water Level and Coastal Change Forecast. Use of CoastCam camera station to visualize and map the beach and nearshore region to determine the types of bar morphologies, their persistence and temporal variability, and the relationship of these changes to wave and water-level conditions. Meteorlogical measurements will be made at the CoastCam location to supplement data on nearshore circulation processes, especially during the summer-early fall deployments that overlap with the shark behavior research.

Summary CACO02 camera 1 collected 20,040 images (9 GB), camera 2 collected 19,913 (10 GB) from Jan 5 to Sep 9 (not all days have photos or the same number of photos per day). CACO02 was also moved back from the bluff edge (see events). A new camera CACO03 was installed back from the bluff edge; camera 1 collected 24,350 photos (85 GB) and camera 2 collected 24,461 photos (33 GB) from Jul 23 to Dec 31. The MET station recorded data throughout the year and was moved once (see events)

2024-01-05 2024-01-05 E. Marsjanik, C. Sherwood, J. Over, and L. Vanderveen replaced the Marconi Cameras and did an intrinsic (checkerboard) and extrinsic (AeroPoints and plywood Targets) calibration
2024-01-18 2024-01-18 Eric Marsjanik installed a new solar charge controller and weathertight battery box. Installed new MC4 connectors on the solar panels and wired everything to the new charging enclosure. System is 100% operational
2024-01-22 2024-01-22 Eric Marsjanik performed a charging system health check, changed the charging algorithm for the solar charge controller. The power supply batteries were replaced with known good spares. Cleaned Lenses. System is 100% operationa.
2024-02-05 2024-02-05 Eric Marsjanik went to the camera site to troubleshoot camera being non operational. Eric Marsjanik replaced existing batteries with a new lithium battery and verified power to the system.
2024-02-12 2024-02-12 Eric Marsjanik and Olivia DeMeo went to Marconi Beach to troubleshoot low power issue. Found bad connector on solar panel and repaired in the field. Replaced battery with spare. Camera is operational
2024-02-22 2024-02-22 Eric Marsjanik and Robert Bales went to clean the camera lenses. System is operational
2024-02-27 2024-02-27 Eric Marsjanik replaced the solar voltage controller on the charging system for the camera. Camera is operational
2024-04-09 2024-04-09 Eric Marsjanik went to troubleshoot camera not uploading images to the server. The camera was operational, but there was no internet connection. The lack of new images on the server was due to bad cellular signal in the area.
2024-06-05 2024-06-05 Eric, Olivia, Athina powered off Mayfly, downloaded data, powered on Mayfly.
2024-06-12 2024-06-12 A. Lange, J. Over, and summer student Broden Grimm went out, and put out targets (surveyed with SP80) on the beach to calibrate the camera.
2024-07-08 2024-07-08 Eric and Olivia removed Mayfly met and installed Campbell met.
2024-08-08 2024-08-08 E. Marsjanik, C. Sherwood, J. Over, A. Lange, and summer student Enzo Inostroza cleaned old camera and installed the new camera, but did not aim them. Also participated in the congressional visit with the Park Service. *CACO-03 IO calibration done at MOF on 2024-08-01 by E. Marsjanik
2024-08-15 2024-08-15 C. Sherwood and A. Lange aimed new camera (CACO-03) and cleaned lenses. New camera started data collection.
2024-08-19 2024-08-19 C. Sherwood and A. Lange adjusted and cleaned the cameras. Failed to get wifi service on beach to put out targets
2024-08-27 2024-08-27 A. Lange and J. Over put out targets (and surveyed with the RS3/RS2 base and rover set-up) on the beach to calibrate the new camera.
2024-09-09 2024-09-09 Eric Marsjanik and Robert Bales removed guy wires supporting camera due to severe dune erosion. Camera will have to be moved in the future.
2024-09-18 2024-09-18 C. Sherwood and J. Over did an emergency visit to fix broken guy wire on the new camera in preparation for the coming storm. Cleaned lenses.
2024-09-23 2024-09-23 Eric Marsjanik and Robert Bales removed the old camera (CACO-02) due to severe erosion to save it from falling down the bluff.
2024-09-25 2024-09-25 C. Sherwood, A. Lange, J. Over, and S. Brosnahan adjusted tilt of new camera and cleaned camera lenses and solar panels.
2024-09-30 2024-09-30 Eric and Olivia re-installed met station.
2024-10-02 2024-10-02 C. Sherwood met with Friends of Cape Cod National Seashore (FCNSS) to train them on how to clean the camera lenses in the future.
2024-10-23 2024-10-23 C. Sherwood and J. Over putting out targets to calibrate the new camera. *will update with personnel if it changes.
